An F on my transcript. D:

edited August 2007 in General
The final marks for CMPT 225 were posted recently, and I really felt my stomach sink when I saw that big fat F on goSFU. I'm a Computing Science major, so this is a pretty serious blow for me.

I'm posting this because I'm hoping that maybe someone here will be able to answer my question.

Does anyone know what kind of repercussions there are for having an F grade on your transcript? I'm guessing that it shouldn't interfere with my obtaining a degree (and, at least as of now, I don't intend on ever entering graduate school, so I'm not concerned about that either), but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm more worried about what it might mean in terms of my acceptance into co-op. I was planning to try for a co-op placement sometime next year, but I'm sure that this F will be setting me back.

Does anyone know if it will be really difficult for me to get a co-op placement? My overall GPA is still hovering around ComSci's 2.4 minimum, and this F was a serious wake-up call for me, so hopefully I'll have pulled my GPA up by the time I'm ready to apply for co-op.

Thanks in advance.

I saw my mark for cmpt225 too. I expected more......
I don't really understand how she scaled marks >.<

I don't really know the answer for your question though.

I did 225 in the spring and found it tough and thought I was going to fail, but I ended up with a B-.

Anyways, in regards to your F. If your GPA is above 2.0 then you are fine. As far as I know you just have to redo 225 and get a C- or higher in order to be able to take 275 and graduate.

I do not know much about co-op since I wont be doing it.

exactly what jaydub said.. just redo the course before you apply for co-op and i'm sure you'll be fine... =)

don't take the F too hard.. it's just a letter..

just redo it? only the better mark will count on your transcript

Must have been quite stomach-churning. However, from what you've said, it doesn't seem too bad:
-The F will be a serious wake-up call for you and maybe you'll work harder
-You've already experienced getting an F so the next time you get a bad mark, you'll certainly cope with it better (hopefully it won't come to that)
-You can still retake the course, so it's all good

Hence, it is not as bad as you initially think or perhaps not that bad at all. Just cheer up, study harder, retake the course if necessary, and you'll be fine.

eh you live, you learn. it's not the end of the world :)
was the course really hard? i guess if you re-do it, i bet you'll do much better the second time around since you've already touched up on the content and stuff.

I think you just have to re-do the course and you should be fine.

    The jobs were really crappy.

The job i had sucked and gave me no relevant experience to what i eventually want to do as a career.

I was deceived by the employer.

End result: I quit co-op and couldnt be happier.

Some people are happy with it, others are not. I was not.

I did have a friend who loved co-op, but he was in engineering and those jobs are a lot better than the ones that i am doing my degree in.

    Live and learn.
