If you're just aiming for a decent card without jazziness, try these ones: (See my comment below for why this looks different in the quote by illicit)

    Asus EAX550/GE256 256MB PCI-E w/TV & DVI - http://www.a-power.com/product-2243

    Asus EN7300GS/256 256MB DDR2 PCI-E w/HDTV & DVI - http://www.a-power.com/product-2257

I got this one for an Athlon64 box I'm building - it has some method of 'borrowing' some system RAM to get you 512 megs effective video RAM even though it only has 256. Not sure if you can turn the feature off but you can give it a go:

    eVGA E-GEFORCE 7100GS 256M DDR2 PCI-E (256-P2-N412) - http://www.a-power.com/product-3120-355-1

    http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=570189

... if you desire to turn off the TurboCache :P

wow you know your stuff about your video cards. i'm just looking for one to plug and play, nothing really fancy.

right now i'm looking at this 7600GT

    http://www.a-power.com/product-2324-355-bestseller

to what i know, it's pci-e, and that's really the only thing you need to look at in terms of compatibility, and the power usage (i have a 400w)

Whoops, I should have said if you're WORRIED about cost, :teeth:

If you're NOT, a 7600 GT is quite ample. I have one myself, actually, for the dual core system I have. The 7100GS is a lower-end card that would be decent for older games like SimCity 3000, Quake 1/2, that sort of thing.

well i have the video card 7600gt but i CANNOT use it yet. why? because they're both DVI output, which i didn't notice, and i've only got a DB-15 cable.

now i have to go to ncix and buy the adaptor, too bad it's not that expensive (~8)whereas staples is ~25 haha.

Weird, my eVGA 7600GT came with a free DVI adapter, and so did my Sapphire x700. That's kind of uncool for the manufacturer of your card to not include an adapter :(

    where is that?

well my 7600 GT works fine now with my battlefield 2142, had to go out to ncix and purchase the adaptor.

    toast, where is what?
