I'm definitely feeling that way. I'd do it in a second, but I have debt-o-phobia. Student loans scare me. If I could find a place where I could have my own room for <600/month with all util's included, I might consider it.
Also, I like people in general, but the first time someone left the peanut-butter jar out on the counter all night, I would become a crime statistic. =P
Funny enough, the amount of money that I've made this summer should cover me through my last 3 semesters of school. So I dont think I would have to get student loans.
BUT....I would not have any money for anything else....such as: rent, food, clothing, entertainment. Im planning on getting a part-time job this fall, but there is only so much work I can do while going to school....I'm not good with working AND going to school....ive rarely done it in the past. Thats the problem. And then there's my car which, after i move out (if i do!), i doubt my parents will continue paying for it. And since im in Communications and Criminology, my classes are split between the burnaby AND downtown vancouver campuses, grrr.
But i really wanna move out, I think i would be so good on my own. :(

Uhm... if you are moving out, you need to think about all that other stuff, not just tuition! If all your money is going to tuition, and you cannot afford rent or food... you are in a pretty bad situation!
I still don't see WHY you are so eager to leave home? If your parents are paying for your car, school and housing, they are obviously okay with you staying there. You will have the rest of your life to worry about things like bills, groceries, landlords, roomates, etc, etc, etc. Why not enjoy this while you can?
After a certain age, I hated staying at home. My parents would never ask me to pay for a car or charge me rent, but theres something about being independant that just can't be beat. I knew at an early age that I wanted to move out, so I made a plan and stuck to it. It wasn't something that happened over night. First of all, i was going to school, so I couldn't sacrifice that. I started working on programming and learning new skills in my free time, and with that I found a good job that balanced well with school. From there, I found a place to share with my girlfriend, so it wasn't too bad. Things have gotten a lot better since then, but it was all the small things I missed at first. At home, my laundry was always done, there was always food in the fridge, and things were clean. But living alone shows you how much work it really is...good luck with your decision but don't rush anything.
well yeah.. living with parents can be a pain.. i hate it when they get all macho over me.. the "you live under my house and therefore you abide by my rules" lecture really pisses me off sometimes.. yet i realized that moving out isn't a neccessity for me and that it's going to be quite a financial burden.. @_@ i'm okay with living with my parents.. as mushy as it sounds.. i like being close to my family.. =) but in the future.. i do hope to move out and learn to be independent.. i try to split the costs between my parents.. i pay for my books and tuition... food when i go grocery shopping for the family.. as well as my own expenses.. but my parents are stubborn in paying for food when we eat out.. gas and my phone bills... =.=" speaking of which.. does anyone notice that once you start earning income.. parents seem to be a lot more enthusiastic in paying for your expense as opposed to when you're without a job? =\ i kind of notice that with mine..
Yes Malakaiii, I am well aware that i need money for those other things, hence why i wrote it in my post. And my parents are not paying for my school anymore, i am paying for the remainder of it.
My parents pay for my car....for now, and that is the biggest thing that is keeping me here. Without my car paid for, i would most definitely be in a not so good place. The car is essential to me to get to school (both campuses).
Im "in a rush" to get out because i want to be out on my own....living my own life and being young. At 22 years old, i want to be out doing things and not worrying about having to txt home to tell my mom what time to expect me back, or have her call me and say "you have work tomorrow, you'd better get home".
Yes, I love my parents, of course i do! And i appreciate everything that they do for me. But i feel that its my time to spread to my wings.
CollegeDude, I do my own laundry (I have for a very long time) and go and buy groceries at least once a week. I dont think that would be a problem for me. Thats cool that you and your gf moved in together and now you're independent....you know exactly what im talking about.
Ive told myself to move out before my 23rd birthday, so that gives me just under a year. Its gonna be hard, but i think its something that i should do.
I'm personally planning on moving out after I graduate. I'm lucky enough that my parents pay for school so I have a small amount of money saved up for when I do move out. What do you guys think is a good amount to budget for a month's living expense, as well as how many months of living expense should you have saved up in case you get laid off or cant find a job?
