how many of u work/school at the same time?

edited July 2007 in General
yea as the topic stated

personally i just found myself allocating my time better since ive worked for almost 2 years now while going to school.. and seemed to get better grades too, so was just wondering if other ppl were having the same experience
i used to play lots of video games, but i cut a lot of that out due to time constraints (prob why my grades have gone up haha)

so ya, what do ya do? and how often do u work? and whatever else you have to share too :)

im currently doing mostly emails/live support for customer issues for a local/online computer retailer

school monday - thurs in the morning, then work from 2-6, and full day of work on fridays

How many courses are you taking?

I personally find it hard to work and do school at the same time....I dont have enough time! I might work a little bit (like one or two days a week), but thats it.

Right now, I am not in school for the summer....I am working only. I hate work. School is better. I cant wait til Fall.

When I did my undergrad I was working 30 hrs/week at London Drugs in the photofinishing dept while taking like 4 classes per semester.

Now I'm studying for my chartered financial analyst test (they recommend that you study for about 18 hrs per week) and work 40 hrs/week as a financial advisor.

Umm my grades weren't that great when I did my undergrad mainly because I did't plan my schedule well. I usually forget to book the days off before major projects and midterms.

While I went to Langara a couple years ago, I was working and going to school. I worked at Black's photography evenings and weekends and then went to school during the day. I'd take 4 classes at a time. Then I quit work and did 3 semesters (1 at Langara and 2 at SFU) of 5 courses at a time. My grades went up A LOT when I didn't have to worry about work!

In September, I'll be taking 5 courses and then finding a part-time job. I'll also be volunteering one day a week at an elementary school (maybe just the mornings), and going to Girl Guide meetings on Monday nights. I work well under pressure because I feel like I'm accomplishing a LOT, so I think it'll be a good setup. We'll see.

i've been working part time since my first semester at SFU.. the grades weren't bad and i was able to allocate my time wisely.. but now as the years go by.. i find that i'm not doing as well as i should be in school and time management.. and i don't know what happened.. @_@ lol..

currently i'm taking 2 distance ed courses and working 2 part time jobs.. i'm still debating whether i should keep both when sept hits.. heh..

yeah I'm taking three courses (10 credits=4+3+3) this semester and working in marketing at a firm. i have found that my grades are even better than before, and I'm more disciplined when I'm cracking the books open. The only problem is that my work requires me to do a lot of concept design/publishing, it's the kind of work that doesn't stay in the office when I go home--i find that I'm always thinking about work when I'm not thinking about school. but yeah I don't dick around (except when I'm on talksfu ;) ) and surprisingly, I still have a bit of a social life...I just don't sleep very much :(

I like doing full course loads in the Fall and Spring semesters but that would mean i wouldn't be able to hold up my day job. luckily my work is offering to let me do contract work instead so I don't have to go into the office that often. but i don't know how i feel about that. i don't want work overload, but i need money to pay tuition/survive lol.

Used to work the during first few years. Now I've got enough money to chill out a bit. In terms of grades, they have gone up: not because of me working harder (if anything, I'm more relaxed than before), but because I'm getting luckier (a huge part of the grade is attributable to dumb fucking luck, trust me!).

When I worked, I found myself having better time management than now.

I'm planning on working. Although with six courses it's going to be hard. On the other hand if I dont have enough to do I get bored, and when I get bored I get lazy, and when I get lazy I stop doing any work at all. And then I get depressed because being lazy has affected my marks, and then I do badly in school. It's a downward spiral. So the idea this time is to keep myself as busy as possible. Work hard, study hard and party hard is going to be my new motto. Although probably only on 18 hours of work/week hopefully.

19 dollars an hour, plus over time
4 days a week, 10 hour days. if u work fast u can finish in 8 hours, but some days when its a heavy load u can work 12 hours and get lots of OT lol
i'll probably have 48 hours this week
    tiring and sun burned, haha

If you work more than 12 hours weekly, it becomes detrimental to school. The whole "you can succeed if you balance your schedule" thing is bollocks--one has to rest and recuperate in order to be successful at studying.
