I'm gonna kill someone soon!!

edited June 2007 in General
Hey what's up guys?
many of you probably don't know me, cos I've been AWOL for some time... but now I'm back!

Anyway; I'm not in SFU this semester cos I'm taking courses at a college closer to my place, since SFU is so far away... and I need to get something outa me before I blow!

Anyway, so we had a midterm today in a class of 30, and we have had 2 quizes before today's midterm, and anohter class I take with this teacher, also has had 2 quizes... none of them were bubble sheets, but today he decides to use bubble sheets, and I didn't have a pencil with me, so I asked him to lend me one, and he said yes, but probably heard wrong, cos after 2 min I asked him again, and he said no, that I could go get one from my bag if I had one, if not then not...

I was pretty much boiling at that point already, but I decided to just fill in the bubble sheets with a pen =)

I went down to the couselors office later and told her what happened and she told me that, if I had ckipped a class or so and maybe in that class he had informed that we're using bubble sheets...

but my arguement is; has anyone ever been to a midterm or exam, where they use bubble sheets and the prof/teacher has not had any pencils to give to students?

what if I had a different kind of pencil that was not suitable for the bubble sheet? or what if my last led broke?

I didn't wanna disturb other students either, so what's done is done and I'm waiting for my midterm to come back... if he's gonna be a dick and not give me my marks, I'm gonna bitch so much till they let me drop the class and refund my money! I mean, I don't wanna take his class no more, if he's just gonna be a bitch and there's definately gonna be future bias towards my gradings...

Thanks for listening =)

ARGH!!

Why didn't you ask one of your classmates if they had an extra pencil?

I don't think it's fair to bother other students when they are writing a midterm...

He should of at least informed the class before hand to bring pencils. That was sort of irresponsible if he did not do so.

like, in his fariness, maybe he did ask us to bring a pencil, but I just wasn't in class... but for him not to have any extra's; that's pretty irresponsible... maybe my last pencil breaks... I donno, I think it's pretty stupid, if expects me to have a pencil if he doesn't have one

Always come prepared to a midterm. I always bring pencils to midterms. If I didnt have one, i would ask the students around me, its not that big of a deal. No offense, but i think this is your own fault here.

And are you admitting to skipping classes then? Because he might have said it in one of those lectures...maybe he didnt, but he could have.

This is university, not highschool. Professors shouldnt have to provide us with pencils. We're not little kids.

omg... I'm not saying that it wasn't my bad on the part that I didn't bring a pencil... I think there's too many that are reading what I wrote and not getting the point.

    I don't use a pencil... true, I didn't go prepared, but
1.because of past experience has told me that there isn't gonna be no bubble sheet fill in.
2.even if I did bring a pencil and it snapped (cos for all he knows, that might have been the case), he didn't come prepared either.
3.or what if my pencil is just not he right pencil that the machine reads?

and baby e, true; this is not highschool... but false, professors should provide us with pencils for reasons stated above.

seriously, when was the last time you walked into an exam room, and had bubble sheets but they didn't provide pencils? I think there's a reason they do that. and I just assumed that he as a teacher would use the same logic. If he's using that as an arguement that I shouldn't assume, cos all my high school, college, uni life teachers have done, then I guess I'm to blame

I think hes responsible for telling the students that it'll be bubblesheet/scantron or w/e, but not responsible for bringing the pencils. Otherwise, who cares if he told the students it'll be bubblesheet? Party! Pencils for all.

Prolly the best way to learn a lesson is to learn it the hard way. But look on the bright side, this wont affect your SFU CGPA

PS: If you do plan on killing someone, make it ppls @ the college, not SFU.

I advocate the bringing of pencils by professors and enough pencils for all!

Look at it this way: the "Scanwrong" (Scantron) is by far the most convenient way of marking an exam. Just slide the papers in, push the button, and you've done your marking.

If the professor wants to make it convenient for himself to give you these bullshit Scantron questions (all multiple-choice exams are unfair!), why not at least make it convenient for the students to fill them out? The students after all have no say in how they will be marked so bringing pencils for them is the least thing you can do!

My advice: make a complaint to the prof, make a complaint to the department, make a complaint to the dean, make a complaint to whoever is in authority. Don't let this slide!

that really sucks..... just complain till the cows come home ... complainers always get their way.... (i hate customer service :( )

just glad it's not a final exam

Omg you guys, are you serious? Why is it the professors responsibility to bring pencils for us? Seriously, if you dont come prepared or dont care to ask the students around you for a pencil, then you deserve to fail the exam.

Yes, profs have brought pencils in the past, but ive been in a class where we had an exam and someone asked the prof for a pencil and he said he didnt have any. Why should he have to have them? Its not his responsibility.

I will say it again: we are NOT in highschool....we are university students. Pencils are not that hard to bring with you. Just keep some in your bag. Whenever i write and exam, i bring about 4 pens and 2 pencils JUST IN CASE. Be prepared people.

Go ahead and complain if you want, but i think its the dumbest complaint ever, and they will prolly tell you the same. But good luck with your complaint.

I'm going to have to agree with baby_e here.

from my own experience, none of my profs have ever really warned me to bring pencils but I have always brought pencils, pens, and an eraser just in case. there have been a few times that a few students asked if they could borrow a pencil but the prof didn't have any either. i agree, it sucks ASS and as a fellow student i DO hope you get to your complaint heard, but either way, learn from this and come fully prepared ALL THE TIME.

    good luck though.
