This is a tough question. There are things that PCs are good for, and there are things like Macs are good for. I do a lot of designing and Macs are especially good to have for graphic/multimedia design. On the other hand, PCs can do an exceptional job of that as well.
For the aesthetics, Macs win in that department, but to consider whether Macbooks are good or bad, it really depends on what you plan on using it for.
Actually I was talking to someone about this and they mentioned that because Macbooks are relatively new on the market, there have been some flaws that haven't been dealt with and they are only finding out about them (such as faulty batteries, etc) from recent customers now...I don't know how credible this information is... Some have even said that the older Mac laptops (the iBook G4) are more stable and reliable. but i don't know, I don't have a mac laptop so I'm just stating what people have told me...
Personally, I think the macbooks are awesome. I don't have one myself (cuz I'm not a girl) but I see people using them in class all the time, and the graphics and functionality are amazing. Basically, the way I see it is this... if you want a computer that does what you need it to do (ie. surf the web, word processing, messenger) then Macbook is definitely the way to go. But if your a techy and need more versatility than the average user, then its better to go with a windows laptop. But keep in mind you can run windows on the macbook if you want, so its kinda like having the best of both worlds.
I bought a MacBook Pro recently and I like it so far. I stopped using my PC desktop since I got it. I only use it to surf the web, msn, and type out my homework only. I also like the fact that the keyboard light up. I think that's kinda cool.
I had a Sony Vaio before and the screen burnt out w/in a year. If you are gonna get a pc, I would recommend an IBM thinkpad as I've heard it is extremely reliable.
I need it just for homework, writing papers, internet use, and msn. Thats it. I dont need it for anything else really. Would it be smart to get it you think?
My bf said he thinks they're awesome. I'm just worried that my one friend (who works at future shop and is a complete computer nerd) says that they're terrible. But from everyone else, ive heard good things. Im thinking of getting it soon, and i know its a bit more expensive, but if it wont break down on me or get viruses, im thinking it might be a good bet.
For your purposes, I'd say stick with a regular windows-based laptop. You'll save money. Sadly, most people buy Macs because they're aesthetically pleasing, and it's "cool" to have one. Save yourself a few hundred bucks.
Yah, are you implying that im fat or something? :/
I might get one, im still deciding. My friend that works at Future Shop wouldnt tell me why he thought it was bad, he said that "it just is bad". Whatever that means. I'm thinking about getting it. Its super cute!
^ yeah you get a free ipod nano too if you decide to buy one during their back to school promotion so the pricing w/ the student discount + free ipod nano isn't too bad.
Are you serious? A free ipod nano? My bf just bought me one about a month and a half ago, but i could give it to him because someone just stole his about two weeks ago :(
How long is that promotion on for? Is there a link somewhere?
well, without going into specs, it's obvious apple does more advertising for their products, therefore they need to make more money correct?
they make money by overpricing their products and consumers will buy because it's aesthetically appealing etc. whereas if you take the specs, and compare it to a HP or a Toshiba etc, they'll be same specs but the apple one will definitely be more expensive. same deal with sony. all in the advertising, and consumers paying for it.
Ok so i went to Future Shop and looked at them, and they are soooo cute! Im gonna get one. I asked them about the ipod nano thing and they said that they dont have that promotion :(
im not sure on the pricing on them, but for similar value u can definitely get better specs in a laptop that is running windows, u r essentially paying for the aesthetically pleasing visuals and the apple brand
i know some authorized dealers actually have education discounts for macs, but im not sure how those work

If you want the apple student discount just purchase it from the computer store at SFU or buy it online www.apple.ca
If you're planning to buy a macbook you'll get $100 off and if you're planning to buy a macbook pro you'll get $200 off. All you need is a valid student number to get the discount and ipod nano. Hope that helps.
^^Yah, but I have some future shop gift cards I want to use towards paying for it. Otherwise i couldnt afford it, lol. So i have to buy it through Future Shop :(
I bought a MacBook today at the SFU Microcomputer Store. It was $1149, and if you bought an iPod Nano, you can apply for a rebate of $249. So not a bad deal at all!
Unfortunately I got it home and there's a dead pixel right in the middle of the display. And the store is closed until Tuesday. And apparently 1 dead pixel isn't a big problem (according to a repair place) and Apple doesn't cover it in their warantee. *grumble*
It's a damn nice computer, but I'm bitter that it's not perfect considering I spent a lot of money on it!
^ Don't feel too bad. I got my macbook pro from the apple store about 2 weeks ago. It didn't come w/ any dead pixels but since I work every day and my 13 year old bro keep on using it the laptop has already been all scratched up and dirty. At least your laptop isn't in the type of condition mine is in.

The only thing that women buy that men would have no use for is tampons.

GET IT :) yes it is pretty, but it would be much prettier in your own hands, no?

Maybe I should just check Future Shop's webpage...
