Is smoking a turnoff for women?

edited June 2007 in General
I have an ex who smoked and she was my last gf. We broke up a while ago, and I smoke a lot.... I hear all the time that women don't like it, but I don't care, If a girl wants me to quit she'll be out the window.

So ladies, would you consider a charming, handsome, 5'10" male even if he smoked? Be honest.

P.S. I'm not a bad smoker, I only go thru 3-4 packs a week...

I would never date a smoker.

My parents both dated smokers after they divorced, and it was awful to come home to a house that reeked of cigarettes. It was in EVERYTHING! It's also worse if you have any facial hair because then the smell gets in that too and makes you unpleasant to kiss...

On the otherhand, I know lots of friends who DO smoke and meet other smokers via smoking (crazy, I know). Asking someone for a cigarette is a good conversation starter and then you can sit and smoke together to keep chatting. So maybe if you find someone who smokes too?

My other qualm is that I feel addiction is a sign of weak will. But that's just my thoughts!

I hate smoking so much, but yet my bf smokes :( When we met, he promised me that he would quit and he hasnt. He knows i hate it and he doesnt smoke as much as he once did, but still it bugs me. I know its hard for him tho and it'll take time. I actually have no idea how to motivate him to quit smoking....its something im still trying to figure out.

I'm with my bf cuz i love him for who he is, and that includes his horrible habit. One day im sure i can get him to quit, but for now i just glare at him when he lights up and he puts it out pretty quick. He doesnt smoke in his house or in his car. He only smokes outside, usually after we eat, and im not around it. Ugh its so annoying tho. But i love him for him. :) Smoke gives me a headache tho, i dont think he gets that tho. I think he thinks im just lying when i say that, but im not lol. For now, i'll accept it tho as long as its not around me.

3 to 4 packs a week is quite alot. I used to smoke too, but I got tired of the hacking cough and shooting pain in the chest, so I quit. It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I wouldn't date a smoker too, because I quit already and don't want to start again.

^How would u motivate a smoker to quit tho? I guess its just something that they would want to do.

You'd have to be pretty amazing for someone like me to overlook ur smoking.

I'm a non smoker too and my b/f smokes. Before I starting dating my b/f, I told myself that I would never go out with a smoker. But you can't help the way you feel about someone. Smoking is a definate turn-off, but if a guy has other qualities it something that can be overlooked. It sucks though, because if we are in a restaurant he will leave to go smoke outside, while I stay inside (if its cold outside). When that happens, he makes it a quick puff. Also, if we go to clubs, I refuse to go in the smoke room because its disgusting. Anyways, he's planning on quitting.

Smokings bad... I smoke but I wouldn't want my gf to be hacking butts all the time. It just looks bad, and smells bad and in the long run its really bad for your health (i know i know). Any suggestions on how to quit?

i used to smoke... then i quit... my gf smokes... doesn't bother me at all, but i guess i used to smoke so that's maybe why it doesn't.

So what would some of you do if your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife started to smoke?!

Smiles: my bf does that (leaves the restaurant to go for a smoke). What can i do about it really except just kinda glare at him. Sometimes when i do that, he'll be like, "ok, i'll wait" and then he'll go smoke when we're leaving the restaurant and i go to the washroom.

I hate smoking rooms at clubs....at Red Room its so disgusting! I can barely breath in smokey places like that, and it doesnt help that its right by the washrooms, so the smoke fills the air in the washroom too. Its so gross. If I'm around smoke too much like that, i get such a headache and feel sick.

The smoke room at red room is gross. I usually just hang out behind the dj area while I wait because I can't stand it.

my ex used to smoke when we met. He was at about a pack a day, which I consider heavy. He started young..like maybe 12 or 14 or something. I told him I would never kiss a smoker, and I was serious. I guess he thought I was worth it because he went on Zyban and had quit for good 3 months later...That was like 5-6 years ago and although we're not together anymore, I'm sure he still hasn't smoked since.

and for the record..no I would NEVER date a smoker..ever
