Guys don't like funny girls as much as girls like funny guys?

Do you find this to be true in your personal life?

Do you girls find that sense of humor is high on your list of qualities in the ideal mate?
Do you guys prefer funny girls?
I understand why guys like girls who laugh at their jokes (compatibility). But studies are showing that they have no preference for girls who make them laugh, if their objective is to enter a relationship with these girls. Isn't the latter a case of compatibility as well?

I always ask my girlfriends, and they always say they like funny guys. I don't understand WHY. Could you explain that? Growing up, I always associated humor with girls. I don't find a sense of humor, especially if consciously displayed, to be a huge plus.

Are these societal expectations rooted in biology or what?

    Well what's the alternative to a "funny girl"? A dead serious girl? I find it hard to put it into a category of "funny" or "unfunny". I'd think it's much more of a compatibility issue. Guys with funny, quirky personalities might prefer funny girls, but maybe girls that are less funny?

    Also, it depends on the type of humour. While funny can be rated on a scale of 1 to 10, let's say, there are different types of "funny". Like toilet humour, political humour, etc. Did the study take into account those variables?

    Anyhow, I prefer girls that are funny. Previous girlfriends I've had that were semi-serious and not open to humour were just unbearable to have a decent conversation with. I joke around a lot, so maybe that has something to do with it.

    Personally, I like when people are able to make clever jokes. It shows that they are observant and thoughtful, and have a way with words.

    i just need a girl to feel my style and sense of humor, if she doesn't then shes prob not my type of girl and we wont hav a fun time

    yeah i got a real sexual innuendo type of humor... thank god my girlfriend thinks its funny, haha. i even got her saying the same kind of stuff so its good, haha

    i like funny girls that can share my humour. although sometimes rather immature humour, i like that in a girl too when she can just let loose in different ways yeknow.

    It's way better hangin out with a girl who has a sense of humor, but theres only one thing better... a girl with smarts. It just makes the conversations that much better, and I think being able to talk to each other is a really important thing in the long term.

    Girls love funny guys. Why wouldn't they? Who doesn't like to laugh, and if you've got to be with someone, why not pick someone who can entertain you? Happiness is the greatest aphrodesiac, so guys who bring a smile to a girl's face are getting laid left right and center. ;)

    Myself, I rank sense of humour very high on things I look for in a girl. Not necessarily a girl who is funny, but a girl who understands humour, and will laugh at things that are funny. I can't stand girls who don't laugh. They think it's not feminine, or something. In reality, not ever laughing at anything makes girls seem boring and stiff. I'm not arrogant, but if I absolutely can not get a snicker out of a girl, I assume she's a frigid bitch. :p

    What about girls who don't think you're funny but laugh at your jokes only to be nice? Many girls do that just to be nice to guys whose sense of humour is frankly not worth a damn.
