Do you control your dreams?

edited June 2007 in General
When I can, I try to control my dreams. Instead of following the dream like a movie, I prefer to be consciously involved since it's so much fun to fly around and summon chi blasts in your hand and blow up walls. (That last part is what I've been trying to do in my dreams lately without success.)

The problem is that my unconscious mind can't keep up with my conscious thoughts. That's why when I'm flying the dream slows down and I don't seem to get anywhere. It's like "lag," and I think it's caused by the subconscious mechanisms in the dream having trouble generating places for me to go.

In another instance, if I'm talking with someone and I ask them a question, if I start waiting to find out what they're going to say the dream will often 'freeze' and crash. In other words, I awaken. I think the reason is that my unconscious has trouble answering situations called for within the dream.

Has anyone successfully controlled their dreams?

    wow. falco85, u are a complicated man.

according to freud, no u can't controul dreams. dreams are the "unopened letter" the "royal road to the unconscious." they cannot be controuled by consciousness

I've had lucid dreams before, but I've never pursued the mechanics of them like that. Mine are like stories... I decide things should happen, they happen, the plot ends at a reasonable time, etc. Sorry I'm no help.

I don't THINK i've ever controlled my dreams. I have problems remembering mine but I'm getting better at it.

Though I have had dreams where things that are happening in the real world while I'm sleeping (like my alarm beeping) occur in my dream as something else. Like the other night I had this crazy ass dream and my alarm went off but in my dream the noise was coming out as my voice so I tried to turn it off by pressing my nose...and then I woke up eventually ahhaha

If I was having a bad dream, I would tell myself "This is just a bad dream, wake up". I would then dream that I did wake up. I would then tell myself "You are still sleeping, wake up", then I would actually wake up. Its pretty cool. I use to have that quite a bit, but not lately.

Also, sometimes in my dream, I would know that I am dreaming & everything round me is not real.

I also been able to control certain things in my dreams, but its been a very long time since I have done that. Now I don't remember my dreams. Its really cool when you can control your dreams.

Ive told myself to wake up sometimes....but other times it doesnt work.

I have a recurring dream where something bad is happening, like a person is trying to attack me or rob me or something, and i try to scream for help....the "bad guy" backs off a bit because he/she thinks i am going to scream and draw attention to him/her, but when i try to scream, nothing comes out. Then the bad guy comes after me because he knows that i cant scream for help.

Its awful....i hate that one. :/

baby_e i've had similar dreams like yours...and the bad dreams always stick with me throughout the day rather than the good dreams i've had.

anyone have recurring dreams? i used to get recurring dreams when I was a kid. it was a really scary dream too...something about a vengeful spirit coming after me and it would follow me around the house. finally when I ran outside towards my garage, I would wake up. it always ended like that. very weird.

I took a psyc class about sleep & bio rhythms. There have been a few studies; if a person is woken up during the sleep phase rapid eye movement, he/she report dreams. Therefore, if someone wakes you up during the time where your eyes are shifting like crazy, you will remember your dream. I never tested this out myself, but this is what the studies shows.

That's pretty cool! It makes sense though, if someone wakes you up in the middle of a dream, it's usually still fresh in your mind...but if you don't think about it for a few minutes then it like...disintegrates. speaking of which, has anyone seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Jim Carrey?

I usually remember my dreams because I wake up frequently through the night to roll over, or get a drink. My boyfriend usually sleeps through the night and can't remember his dreams.

I know how to control my dreams, but I don't usually do it. My dreams are interesting and strange, so I just watch them like a movie. I will wake myself up if the dream is scary, but usually I "fall" back into the dream when I go to sleep again. It's definitely an interesting part of the mind!

My dreams are usually interesting too cuz they are, in some way, weird....like something isnt right about them but yet i go on in the dream thinking that everything is ok. I love it!

You know what i love is flying dreams. I had my second flying dream last week, and i told my bf about it and he just looked at me like i was crazy. Have you guys had those?
