well it's this laptop with the above specs. Kinda want a decent laptop as it's my first, not really fussed about weight/screen size.
The price is £650 so is this a worthwhile deal or could I get something better for the same amount?
Let me know what you think, cheers!

if u want something portable i would suggest getting a 14.1 and under screen size, 12.1 or 13.3 would be ideal for easy carrying to and from classes
My laptop is an Athlon XP-M 2800+, 15.4" widescreen, all the usual fixings and it actually does quite well as a portable computer. It's not *bad* for gaming, but the widescreen makes some of the resolutions look funny, so I don't really do much of that.
But hey, it's your dough, spend it how you like - I agree though that a 17" screen would end up rendering the laptop somewhat uncomfortable for carrying around, because the rest of the laptop needs to physically be that big.
now im runnin a 13.3 and i tweaked it out a lot, get terrific battery life and dont even need to bring a charger, get like 4-5 on regular battery, and 5-6 on the bigger battery
if ur lookin at somethin all around and can game, try the 14.1 formats
the weight is about ~5-5.5lbs (still too heavy for my liking), but its managable, as none of the 13.3 or 12.1 and below will have any decent dedicated video for gaming purposes
as to how i get such insane battery, i dont game at all, so i undervolted my cpu and video and lowered the clock speed, pull the plug on the fan inside, so it dead quiet and has insane batt life, rock stable too
good luck in ur search :D
I'm waiting for my gift certs to get here, then I'm getting this one :)
