*NEW* Cell Phone

edited June 2007 in General
Right now I have a Motorola V710, and well, its a piece, and I need a new phone. So obviously I'm with Telus and I'm thinking of getting rid of my Telus phone/plan and switching to Rogers or Fido.

So what's a good phone with Rogers or Fido? I want a good one, with a good camera, Bluetooth, etc. And one that will hold up, suggestions??

In my personal opinion, nokia makes the best phones. They may not be the fanciest, but they rock when it comes to usability and durability. And the phone you get kinda depends on your needs...but anything is better than a motorola lol

avoid the chocolate as well, it lures you in with its good lucks but its a peice and a half

Agreed. Nokia = teh win. Of course, the Nokias that Rogers and Fido have definitely aren't representative of the awesomeness of Nokia phones. Right now, I'd say the only good choices are the Nokia 5300 (which I think is ugly), or the Nokia 6133. Both will give you the most bang for your buck. I like the 6133 because of the 16 mil colour internal display which is beautiful, but then again, you're trading off for less battery life.

Another non-Nokia alternative would be the Sony Ericsson W810i. I've seen a shitload of people with this phone around, but I've heard it's really decent. Screen quality isn't as nice, but you get the 2MP camera, and a better music player interface (very similar to an iPod interface).

PS. LG Chocolate is teh suck.

unfortunately rogers will never have nokia, (cept for crappy 5300 ) so nokia prices tend to be slowest to slow down ( as well as sharp )

    dont get chocolate.

and i recently got w810i as part of a hardware upgrade i had to do anyways while i still have my BenQsiemens.

w810i is definitely better than what you pay for. camera definitely great, nice UI and size, but not my thing.

selling both of mine off hopefully to get the MOTO E6 PDA phone. or an N80.

The chocolate is a "fashion" phone, which means that it looks good, but has extremely crappy functions. And it freezes all the time as well. Go to any phone review site, that thing has the worst ratings ever.

    :Dressed to Impress: Review

    1) LG brand
    2) no card slot ( weak 128mb and it calls itself a mp3 phone , 128mb isn't even 20 songs )
    3) fingerprint magnet
    Main disadvantages:

    * No memory card slot
    * No FM radio
    * No airplane mode
    * Slow and inconvenient camera interface
    * No MP3 playlist and ID3 tag support

This is what i picked up recently after i sold my BenQSiemens EF71.

definitely an obsession and makes me more sophisticated (since it's a touchscreen PDA)?

    made it quadband too.

    I have This: Nokia N73

It's an okay phone... sometimes lags.
3.2 MP Camera [pretty sweet!]... but sometimes lags.

Features take some time to get use to because they're so split up in terms of where they are on the phone.
-Too many 'menu' screens, you really gotta have a good grip of where everything is, because it'll take a lot of time to find something if you really don't know where it is.

Only thing is that I think it's too thick...
Boys probably don't mind because they have pockets!

I want a thin phone, as thin as the SE w880i, but I hear it's pretty crappy for battery life and camera functions.

im really diggin that rokr e6 too, all the features im lookin for in a phone, and the fact u can mod it to quadband makes it much more attractive here
havnt got around to try it out in person tho, but looks really nice

    My phone:

    nokia1.jpgnokia2.jpg

    nokia3.jpgnokia4.jpg

It's pretty big, but I was searching for a big phone since the time I forgot my cell at a bank machine. With this one, I always know if it's in my pocket. Camera is pretty good, and the VGA 30fps video looks nice, especially for a phone camera. The WiFi is convenient, and I like that I can switch to landscape mode when viewing webpages.

I recently got a SE w810i as well, because I want something I can fit in my pocket when I'm not wearing a jacket, because the N93 is just way too big to carry around if I don't have a jacket on.

    n73 and a n93.

daym i want to meet up and check out those models, see if they're really worth the 500+ haha.

but yeah the E6 i have now for a bit over 400 definitely worth it.

and the edits aren't difficult either since theres a lot of A1200 edits already ( model under the E6 )

So I did end up getting the Chocolate Flip, so far its a pretty good phone, it takes good pictures and texting and using the internet is like instant fast. It could use more features though but I got it for my bday sooo wat u gonna do?? plus its really stylish

all of yous have such high-tech phones!

i feel SO out-dated with my RAZR. as long as it makes calls and can text messages it's good enough for me.

    what's quadband??
  • edited June 2007
Quadband refers to the cellular frequencies that can be received by a GSM phone. North America operates under 850 mHz and 1900mHz, whereas everywhere else in the world uses 900mHz and 1800 Mhz, so in order for your phone to work everywhere in the world, you'd need a quadband phone, which has all four frequencies.

Most phones nowadays are at least Tri-band.

if you received it as your gift then not bad definitely. but here's the downsides of the phone sorry to break it to you haha.

1.3MP camera( this was back in the reign of RAZRS )
    ancient qcif video record
1.2 bluetooth ( no big deal, but theres 2.0 + ad2p which allows you to listen to music through your bluetooth headset)
no extra card slot which really. really. sucks
    700 maH battery ( usual phones approx 1000 )

and no i dont know this off the top of my head. i found it and paraphrased it for you ;)

the specs i put in previously were of the chocolate flip, not my u600.

    u600-

    3.2 megapixel Autofocus
    world's thinnest slider at 3.2mp
    Expandable card slot +80mb embedded
    240x320 TFT screen ( chocolate only 176 x 220 )
    better resale value

what's your decision based on these specs haha?
